APPENDIX
1 - DEFINITIONS
Body
image is how an individual experiences his/her body. It
includes a mental picture of how we think we look and any feelings,
thoughts, judgements, attitudes and behaviours relating to
our bodies.
Body image issues vary in effect and severity from body dissatisfaction,
weight pre-occupation and low self-esteem, to dieting and eating
disorders.
Eating disorders are extreme expressions of a complex range
of weight, food and psychological issues, which occur more frequently
among female teens and young adults. The most common eating disorders
include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge-Eating Disorder. |
